Uniform Residential Landlord & Tenant Act
Uniform Residential Landlord & Tenant Act is intended to simplify, clarify, modernize, and revise the law governing the rental of dwelling units and the rights and obligations of landlords and tenants; encourage landlords and tenants to maintain and improve the quality of housing; and make uniform landlord & tenant law in those states which enact it. The Act has been adopted in Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Each state has “improved” on the basic model. This law represents the latest legal views on what a landlord tenant relationship should be. It is likely to be adopted by more states in the future.
